The BEST phonics program… Reading Horizons is by far the BEST program I have ever used to teach phonics! Using Reading Horizons makes reading make sense! My students every year make huge growth using this program and become excellent decoders. I myself even learned things about reading after using it. I honestly and truly feel like this program helps ensure students don’t have “holes” in their phonics learning and become strong readers. Before using this program, many of our school’s first grade students were not performing well on the DIBELS test. After implementing this program our scores have drastically changed and our students are much stronger readers. I am so grateful to use this wonderful program!

Teacher of 30 years The further I move through the chapters the less I like the program. It is gimmicky. The lessons take longer than the manual states. The 62% of students that do not need this approach to be strong readers and writers are able to follow and understand the more complicated lessons, however the 38% of students that struggle continue to struggle, even with Reading Horizons. If I have to read and reread and reread a lesson to understand it, I doubt 7 and 8 year olds are going to follow it. My students might be able to mark 1 guardian star or two in the isolated lesson, but in “real life” writing or reading they are not applying it. As a veteran primary grade teacher I have seen many trends come and go. It will be no different with reading horizons. They say “but it’s researched based”, well you can find research to lean in whichever way you want. I wish my district wouldn’t waste the money on it. But it’s what’s trendy in education at the moment.

Reading Horizons is the best!! The Reading Horizons program is the best!!! I have been using the RH program for years, and I have not found any other phonics program out there that is better. When I went to my first training on RH, I learned rules about the English language that I never knew before! I enjoy teaching the RH program because it is direct instruction that can be given to multiple types of learners. My students stay engaged, and love to play the games too!!

Completing the much needed Modules in… Completing the much needed Modules in order to get the fabulous kits to enhance my Special Ed students phonics and reading fluency was challenging. I owe everything to Ms. Haley Merrill who went above and beyond to guiding me and helping me. Reading Horizons is powerful! Using Reading Horizons has not only made teaching phonics easier, it also makes it FUN! I have taught first grade for 19 years. This is my 3rd year of teaching phonics using Reading Horizons. I wouldn't want to teach phonics again without this program. I know more about phonics since using Reading Horizons than I ever did before. The Reading Horizons staff is kind and always willing to help with questions and training experiences that make it easy to implement into your daily routine. The online resources and game supplement are incredible! My students are engaged every day. They can explain when to use c vs. k, ss, ff, and zz, etc. When a child can explain the "why", then they become confident readers. That is powerful!
