Unauthorised charges on my credit card! Unauthorised charges on my credit card! I followed some links to "free" documents on scribd a while back. Now there are charges appearing on my credit card. Did I give them permission? Well whenever I sign up for an account anywhere I do these things: 1) I use the "+" feature of gmail to identify the company eg myemail+scribd at gmail. This great feature makes it easy to sort my emails and keep track of things. My alleged account at scribd did not have this addition. 2) I use a particular pattern for my user names to make them easier to remember. My alleged scribd username did not follow my pattern. 3) I use a password manager to store the website and username, and generate a unique and VERY secure password for each site. There is no entry for Scribd in my password manager database! 4) Then I paste the password from password manager into my browser. I checked my browser and there is no password stored for Scribd! So I accept I have opened links to documents that the linkers said were free, but I can be pretty sure I _didn't_ give Scribd permission to charge me. So how did they manage to charge my credit card? I am querying Scribd about this.

Charged me despite no validated email Apparently I signed up months back to Scribd. The issue was that the email address I entered was incorrect and would definitely have bounced! So no welcome email, no receipts etc. Yet despite not having a validated email address they continued to charge me a monthly fee. Once I saw the recurring payment they only refunded 1 month subscription. Surely this is not legal to charge someone without a validated email address??? I hope the document I read was worth it, as I'm $100 out of pocket :-(

Like most people surprised at being… Like most people surprised at being charged (today) - I've never used the service my reading history is blank. So I've cancelled on the scribd website, and also then logged into my payment service (paypal) to cancel future payments. I've also emailed scribd asking them to reverse the payment. Now checking here I see others have been charged even after cancelling, which was not my initial concern. So I'll start with 3 stars assuming good intent on their side, but I will update this review when I hear back from scribd. I do hope they won't try taking any further payments and they reverse my one surprise payment.

Sribd is my most used App. The best Scribd is the most complete provider of anything: Audiobooks, Books, Podcasts, Documents... I am signed up for forever now and wouldn't want to be without it. Best app in my opinion - there is also no maximal usage or anything as is with other providers.
