Update: Regarding the response from Mining Automatic I can state categorically that the original email had no unsubscribe option (and, frankly, I resent being asked to "unsubscribe" from unsolicited communications). The email address in question is a gmail account used only for internal communications in a small higher education college. I have never used it to communicate with anyone in the wider world or to sign up for anything. Therefore it can only have been obtained by somebody harvesting gmail accounts for this purpose.
