MetLife pet insurance - horrible MetLife pet insurance sucks. I had NAtionwide and was lured into Metlife by lower premiums. However, they are very very slow to process claims and to pay. They so made some unfair assessments, and despite a letter from my vet, explaining Metlife’s misunderstanding, they denied the claim. I never had an issue with NAtionwide ever.. After this review posted, MetLife asked that I email them to discuss further. I have wasted 2+ hours already on trying to communicate these issues, not to mention my vet’s time responding (they were appalled by MetLife’s decision). MetLife’s response is an attempt to make their company look helpful but would amount to nothing. Steer clear.

NOT RECOMMENDED by this veterinarian! I am a veterinarian with coverage for 3 dogs and 3 cats through this business. I used to recommend them to everyone when they were PetFirst. After they were bought out by MetLife, things got much worse. They denied coverage for medications for my dog with congestive heart failure-- because my boss has been refilling them! Apparenly, their definition of "business partner" now includes anyone in your own practice. I am now having to go to a different practice, pay full price up front for visits, medications, etc, and then send them in. If nothing else, I was saving them quite a bit with my employee discount! Remember, if they'll do this to me, a veterinarian with a decade long set of policies who has recommended them hundreds of times to clients, what will they do to you?? Please use Trupanion instead.

Metlife for Pets insurance is absolutely useless, bordering on criminal. Metlife for Pets insurance is absolute garbage, they are a bunch of inept operators and fraudulent insurers. We have had Pet Insurance for our pets for several years and recently we were misled into switching to them, worst mistake ever! Every single claim we have made to Metlife for Pets was automatically denied, they setup dozens of troublesome and time consuming knots and loops.Even on a claim for $150!!! We are exhausted and very aggravated with the whole experience of dealing with them,my wife was on the phone for 5 hours on one instance, made dozens of calls and e-mails,they throw you in a laberinth of dead ends and never ending freefalls, call center staff seem mentally challenged and uneducated, they demand Veterinarian notes, and records since my pets were born, they lose Veterinarian files and reports, erroneously assign wrong claimants, asking for uninvolved pet’s health records.Basically they over promise and under deliver their benefits, overstate the ease of filing claims( these guys are worse than the IRS).We are disgusted and dissatisfied with everything about them, fortunately we terminated our policies after a few months after we initiated them,we are going back to our prior insurer.

Their email and chat options are… Their email and chat options are definitely working. It is hard to believe such a big insurance company has poor customer service and no upper management is paying attention to this. Does that consider an insurance fraud? It does take a long time for them to process your claims to compare with other pet insurance companies. I guess if you want a better service, you just need to pay more for it.

Pulling Teeth Without the Fun I adopted my Dogs at the local humane society and they were pushing MetLife Pet insurance with their welcome packet. I knew insurance was a good idea so I got a decent plan and thought I was good. Wrong, filing anything and trying to get a correct "Explanation of Benefits" where they detail how they "honor" your vet charges is like pulling teeth. Had a scare on the first week where one dog decided to eat a leather toy at night and had an ER trip and the filing was awful. I gave the entire adoption history with the vet notes and they denied the claim because I was missing 6 years of medical history on a dog I adopted 2 weeks ago. Not to mention the company is setup so you cant actually contact anyone on the claims team who could simply correct the the fumbled information, you have to contact a dedicated customer service rep. who can email the claims team for you and "contact" you in a week when they hear back or you have to fill out an appeal form that has your vets signature and stamp on it (yes a stamp.) Sure, one time would be bad but its like the claims team is either toddlers or is in India because they cant report the right vet visit dates or read the receipts that say what the vet has or has not prescribed. I think they have fallen to a new level of dysfunction and I'm joining a new company at the end of my plan. PET OWNERS BEWARE 2024.
