The concept of a Spot device is great, but.... The concept of a Spot device is great. People know where you are, you can send messages and get help if needed. There are several choices available in addition to Spot. I would strongly recommend InReach. From my personal experience there are several reasons. 1. Better messaging 2. Better pricing packages 3. No "ambush" auto renewal billing 4. Better and much more responsive customer service 5. Better user experience (ease of use, set up, reliability).

Fraudulent billing and virtually impossible to cancel Fraudulent billing policy! Basic subscription plan started at 100 euros per year, billed to a credit card (so you're unaware that there's a Direct Debit in place) then without your consent, auto-renews at 239 euros pa without any communication or notification. There is no way to cancel the service plan on their website. All contact forms lead to a phone number in Ireland, which takes 20 minutes to respond. Then the american operator offered me a $60 discounts as an incentive not to cancel. I don't trust that they have cancelled my subscription and will be cancelling my credit card just to be sure.

These thieves billed my credit card… These thieves billed my credit card without my permission. Their business practices are disgusting. Buyer be VERY aware. If you are looking for a tracker - go check out Garmin Inreach - Good product and honest customer service, (Update - I have spoken with their customer service group and they have agreed to reimburse my CC account within 14 days. If this happens I will delete this post and revise my assessment. It remains a terrible practice to suck people into automatic renewals,)

Less than a week old and NO-GO. I purchased the SPOT TRACE unit from West Marine on 27 May 2023. I have been unable to connect to the activation link in the Quick Start Guide in order to initiate service since then. I have tried multiple times per day. I thought it was due to the Memorial Day holiday. However, after reading all the 1-star reviews I plan to return this to West Marine. I get the feeling all the 1-star reviews would be 0-star reviews if there were such a lower rating.

Very disonest company Very disonest company, once you subscribe good luck cancelling it. There's no way to do it via their website, you have to call l. I ended up having to cancel my credit card. Get Garmin inreach better customer experience and better hardware.
