These hold up right well, and keep me protected from the sun with their tight weave. (Dermatologists have noted the hats with approval.) Excellent Handmade Panama Hats Authentic handmade Panama hats (made in Ecuador) are becoming more and more rare. Having bought several Cuenca and Montecristi hats from Panama Hats Direct, I can attest to their quality, fair pricing and service. With a small head, I mostly have to have mine made to order, which produces a hat made to specification. I have kept one Montecristi in my car in Florida for several years, and worn it constantly. While it has naturally darkened a bit, there has been no degradation or cracking of the straw.
