If you are trying to sell prints, don't touch these people with a barge pole One star is way too generous! In March this year I decided to try and raise a bit of money for Ukraine. I shared a link to a photo of mine hosted by 1X.com, and told people that if they bought a print, any profit would be donated to a Ukranian charity. I wasn't expecting much to come of it, but it was something, I thought. I know that two of my friends saw my post on social media and bought a print, because they told me. One paid about $18, and the other bought one for $71 (plus a tidy $20 for shipping). I wondered why I hadn't received any notification from 1X.com. I checked the small print on the 1X.com website and realised that funds aren't disbursed for 3 months, so I assumed I would get a notification and payment sometime in June. I didn't really want to wait, so I emailed them on 10 March to ask if they could send me some kind of statement of account so I could transfer funds to the Ukranian charity immediately, knowing I would receive the funds owed in a few months' time. There was no response. I emailed again on 14 March and then 2 May. No reply to either email. I tweeted them. Nothing. I tried calling the number on the website (incredibly difficult to find but it's there if you search hard enough). I got through to an answerphone message in Swedish, which surprise surprise, I don't speak. Increasingly frustrated and suspicious, I had another look at the 'My Account' section on the 1X.com website and realised I'd missed something: when you log in, there is a section called 'Earnings'. It said there is $9.57 in my account. I also noticed it said funds aren't disbursed until your current account balance reaches $50. Given that the website takes 50% of sales, by my calculation there should be $44.50 or so waiting for me in my account, not $9.57. Some $35 or so is missing from my account. So, as if this company's lack of response to my attempts at contact wasn't bad enough, it is clearly withholding this money from my account without my consent, either with criminal intent, or through incompetence. I feel stupid that I didn't check the T&Cs properly in the first place and embarrassed that I have no way of knowing if anyone else has bought this print in aid of charity, and is wondering why they haven't been thanked. The least 1X.com can do - aside from replying to my emails - is to donate to charity all of the profits they have made by selling my print. I am fuming. Do not touch these people with a barge pole. I can see from other reviews that some have had difficulty deleting their 1X.com account. I plan to do so as soon as this matter is cleared up.

Great for consumers; awful for photographers. For consumers looking to buy a print, 1x.com is a good spot. The prices are decent, service is ok and the products are generally well-made. But for you photographers who have contributed your images, 1x.com is basically a scam. Your pictures are the only thing enabling 1x to sell their products, which is what they care about. Without you they are nothing. In return for your beautiful work, you are paid peanuts and the embarrassingly tiny payments are delayed for as long as 1x thinks they can get away with it. You are being used and actually being made to pay for it. The fine print is not easily accessible - you will have some unpleasant surprises. This is a cynical murky business model right up there with sweat shops and similar abuses. Many photographers join for reasons of ego or just to have their work online if they don't have a website. If it's worth it to you, fine. But once you've sold one of your images here for pennies, it's going to be tough to ever sell it for what it's actually worth - you are helping to cheapen photography by signing on with these people. 1x.com is a twisted modern version of film-era stock photography which is intended solely to help 1x to sell prints of other people's work, without fairly compensating them.

Keep away Keep away! Though their platform states that we can delete our account with them at anytime by sending an email to support, which I did 3 emails already, they have not deleted my account and never replied back. This has been going on for 1 month. I also asked support to remove all my photo prints from being sold with their online gallery partners and they replied that it could take about 12 months to do so!?!? But yet in the FAQ on their website it says about 3 to 6 months!? Something smells fishy with them!
