I buy wine all over the world mostly at… I buy wine all over the world mostly at auction and find the opportunity to buy interesting and often overlooked lots on WineBid intriguing. What I do not like is that fact that I am continually ambushed at the end of an auction (like the last 30 seconds) by buyers who have shown no interest in a lot. This past weekend one guy literally was able to outbid me on 5 lots and I had no chance to respond. There is not one wine auction in the world that would not allow an under bidder to not respond but this is the environment that has been created. it is not conducive to creating a healthy marketplace. I am not sure why I even bother with the process.

Although they have reasonable exposure… Although they have reasonable exposure in the marketplace, WineBid holds your money after they sell it for additional 30 BUSINESS days. They require buyers to pay immediately with a credit card on file, collect the completed auction amounts then keep your cash for 30 business days. This is approximately 6 weeks before they give you YOUR money. There is no way it takes nearly this long to process incoming payments. Money moves instantly with electronic fund transfers these days. I can understand a week tops, not 6 weeks. They also charge the industries' largest commission of 15% for large quantities (18% for smaller batches). I have determined there are far better places to sell wine. Try K&L for example. 5% commission.

Fun way to buy older wine! So far I’ve bought over 50 bottles in varying ages and prices and I could Not be happier. The shipping takes a bit of time but the bottles show up still cold and well packed. The only complaint I have Is that I have A hobby that is now way too expensive and my wine storage capacity had to be upgraded to accommodate. If you like trying older vintages and bottles you will never see in a wine shop this is a heck of a lot of fun. A lot of what I’ve bought is under $50 a bottle and I’ve found some amazing gems.

Experienced Customer of Winebid I have been buying on Winebid for over 5 years. I am certain I have bought over 400 bottles. I believe only one of the bottles was skunked. I have used their filters to create my favorites, and enjoy looking at the weekly updates. Knowing the buyers premium is part of the cost, I have found numerous bottles at 50% off retail or more. Now when you bid it advise you of the premium and the only hidden cost is shipping ($5/bottle). I think it is a fabulous site. Separately a close friend of mine died, and his wife had no interest in his Wine cellar. Numerous local lowball quotes from retailers resulted in me pointing her to WineBid. She sold over 700 bottles and netted well over 2x what her best local offer was. I think the site is fabulous.

Winebid is NOT so Good My experiences have NOT been good with Winebid. First, I thought they had a ridiculously high 17% premium fee and you can get lower fees on other auction sites. Second, the shipping was very excessive compared to others. Thirdly, not having exposure to the others bidding (like a in person wine auction), makes me think there are underhanded things going on the maximize on their profits. Lastly, I've gotten wine that may have been fakes and they can NOT guarantee their authenticity. I will not be a returning customer.
